The City of Lander is pleased to confirm that the Independence Day Fireworks Committee will move forward with its annual Independence Day fireworks display on Friday, July 4, at 10 PM.
The public is invited to watch the display from the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality parking lot at the Wyoming Life Resource Center campus. Donations to support the annual fireworks show will also be accepted at the viewing area.
Earlier this week, the Independence Day Fireworks Committee entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Wyoming Attorney General's Office, Wyoming Department of Health Behavioral Health Division, and Wyoming Life Resource Center. The agreement outlines the responsibilities of each organization and the safety measures that will be in place for the July 4 event. After legal review by the City Attorney, it was determined that the City of Lander was not a party to the Memorandum of Understanding and was not required to sign the agreement. The City of Lander also confirmed with County Commissioner Chairman Allen that the Commission never intended for the City of Lander to be party to the document.
The City of Lander appreciates the work of the Independence Day Fireworks Committee and the partnering agencies to make this community tradition possible while placing a strong emphasis on public safety.
As residents celebrate Independence Day, the City of Lander, Lander Volunteer Fire Department, and Lander Police Department remind everyone to use fireworks responsibly within Lander city limits. Fireworks are permitted on private property with the property owner's permission between 10 AM and midnight on July 4. Please discharge fireworks only in safe locations, keep a charged garden hose or fire extinguisher readily available, avoid dry vegetation, and clean up fireworks debris after use.
Fireworks are not permitted in the following locations:
- Main Street
- One block north and south of Main Street during the parade
- City-owned properties, including the rodeo grounds, airport parking lot, all City parks, Lander Golf Course, parking lots serving public buildings, and Mount Hope Cemetery
- East of the Fremont County Detention Center between Amoretti Street and Poor Farm Road
- School district properties and parking lots
