4th of July Safety Reminders

Join us as we celebrate America's 250th birthday and Independence Day in the heart of Wyoming.

As the Fourth of July holiday approaches, the Lander Police Department, Lander Volunteer Fire Department, and City of Lander would like to remind residents and visitors of important safety measures and regulations. This year is especially significant as our nation celebrates the 250th anniversary of American independence. This holiday is one of the busiest times of the year for our community, with Lander's population often doubling during the celebrations. We encourage everyone to drive slowly, remain patient, and show respect for fellow community members, event organizers, and first responders.

Fireworks in Lander
Fireworks are a hallmark of Independence Day, and we encourage everyone to celebrate responsibly and safely. Although Fremont County has banned fireworks outside municipal limits, fireworks are permitted within Lander City limits from 10 AM to midnight on July 4 on private property with owner’s permission. Fireworks are not allowed at the following locations:
-Main Street
-One block north and south of Main Street during the parade
-City-owned properties, including the rodeo grounds, airport parking lot, all City parks, Lander Golf Course, parking lots that serve public buildings, and Mount Hope Cemetery.
-East of the Fremont County Detention Center between Amoretti Street and Poor Farm Road
-School district properties and parking lots

Please help keep our community beautiful by cleaning up fireworks debris after use.

Fireworks Viewing at Mount Hope Cemetery
Mount Hope Cemetery will remain open until midnight for firework viewing only.  To help protect the grounds, please do not park on the grass or near sprinklers marked with orange cones.

Fireworks Viewing for Lander’s Independence Day Fireworks
Lander's annual Independence Day Fireworks Show will be held at 10 PM, hosted by the Independence Day Fireworks Committee. Viewing will be available from the Department of Environmental Quality parking lot at the Wyoming Life Resource Center. Pedestrians and chairs are allowed on the trail between DEQ and Luckey Pond. Donations are appreciated and can be made at the event or online at lander.fcsuite.com/erp/donate/list.

Fire Safety Tips from the Lander Volunteer Fire Department
Celebrate safely by following these fire safety reminders:
-Keep water and a fire extinguisher readily available.
-Light fireworks away from crowds, dry grass, and other flammable materials.
-Fully submerge used fireworks in water before disposal.
-Closely supervise children around fireworks.
-Never hold fireworks in your hands. Place fireworks on a stable surface before lighting them and allow them to cool completely before disposal.

If you see a fire or experience an emergency, call 911 immediately and provide the location and details.

Parade and Race Road Closures and Detours
To accommodate the Challenge for Charities 1-Mile Run and the Lander Pioneer Days Parade, Main Street will be closed between First Street and Amoretti Street beginning at 9 AM. Detour signs will direct traffic along Amoretti Street, but motorists should expect delays.

Northbound and southbound crossovers will remain open at Second, Seventh, and Ninth Streets until the parade begins at 10 AM. These crossovers will temporarily close during the parade and reopen shortly afterward. The Fifth Street crossover will close at 9 AM to accommodate the children's portion of the Challenge for Charities race.

Routes will reopen after the parade. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work to ensure a safe and enjoyable event for everyone.

Parking on Main Street
Main Street must be clear of vehicles beginning at 2 AM on July 4 to allow for parade and race preparations. Vehicles remaining in restricted areas may be towed.

There will also be no parking on the 100 block of North First Street beginning the evening of July 3 through the conclusion of the parade. Vehicles parked in this area will be towed at the owner's expense.

Lincoln Street Construction Update
Lincoln Street construction will take a brief break for the Fourth of July holiday weekend. The intersections at Eighth Street/Lincoln Street and Ninth Street/Lincoln Street will be open to traffic during the holiday weekend. The 700 and 800 blocks of Lincoln Street will remain closed to traffic. We appreciate your patience as work continues on this project.

A Safe Parade for Everyone
To help ensure a safe parade for participants and spectators, water balloons and fireworks are prohibited on or near Main Street during the parade. These restrictions also help protect the horses and other animals participating in the festivities.

For your pet's comfort and safety, please leave dogs at home. Any dogs brought to the parade must remain under their owner's control at all times.

Bikes and scooters, unless they are part of an approved parade entry, are not permitted on the parade route. Candy must be handed out alongside parade floats and may not be thrown from floats. Spectators are asked to remain on sidewalks and avoid crowding the parade route.

Parade Chairs
Chairs may be placed on Main Street sidewalks at the owner's risk.
-Leave adequate space for pedestrian traffic and access to ADA viewing platforms.
-Obtain permission before placing chairs on private property. Property owners may remove chairs placed without consent.
-To assist with race timing, chairs may not be placed on the south side of the 200 block of Main Street (between Second Street and the car wash) until after 9:45 AM.

Open Container
Open containers are permitted within City limits from 9 AM to 11:59 PM on July 4 in accordance with Resolution 1390. Please drink responsibly and celebrate safely.

Pets
The Lander Police Department will not pick up stray dogs running at large on July 4 unless they pose a threat or require quarantine.

To help keep pets safe and comfortable during the holiday:
-Ensure collars have current identification tags.
-Secure pets in a safe location away from fireworks and loud noises.
-Keep a recent photo of your pet available in case it becomes lost.

As we celebrate America's 250th birthday, let's all do our part to make this Independence Day safe, enjoyable, and memorable for everyone. Thank you for your cooperation, and have a happy Fourth of July!
